For those of you who have never heard of it, the Red camera is going to be a huge step for independent filmmakers. The quality of stuff you can (allegedly) produce with this camera is going to be “revolutionary”. I’m not skeptical, but I will wait to see for myself what the big deal is all about before I go to crazy about it.
However, it is apparently impressing a number of reputable Hollywood hotshots are already singing the camera’s praises. Both Steven Soderbergh and Peter Jackson have been raving about this new camera. Jackson shot a brief short with the prototype camera, and Soderbergh has committed to use the camera for his next couple of projects. Both of these guys are well known for being forward thinking on the technology front so this isn’t too big a surprise I guess, but it sure is a big vote of confidence for the Red camera.
