The guys who brought us the Red One camera have made a major announcement, and while I am terribly late in reporting on it I figured I would make some mention about it anyway. The cameras are available for the high end with the new Red 5K Epic, and for entry level with the Red 3K Scarlet. After visiting HD For Indies I discovered that the Epic is expected to be priced around $40k while the Scarlet is expected to cost $3K. I’m assuming they are targetting the big hitters like Peter Jackson and company with the Epic, the Red One will be for the indies, and the Scarlet will be for students and hobbyists. Also announced was the Red Ray, which from my understanding is a player capable of playing back 4K footage from Red’s compact flash cards, but I am not exactly sure what this is all about to be honest.
